On April 28th Leigh Brooks from the Bristol Nature Conservancy acted as our guide to show us around the area just north of Torreya State Park. We saw lush plants, ravines, waterfalls, torreya trees, and so many species that I had never seen before.
I had traveled the river many times along this ridge, but had no idea of the diversity and beauty along the slopes of the river. It will be real challenge to capture the high quality film images in this area due to the canopy effect and the depth of the ravines. I am up for the challenge and plan to film some of the ravines and water paths in the middle of May. The ferns should be full growth and the wild oak hydrangeas will be blooming. Below is a sample of few digital images of our expedition. The Indian Pinks on two slopes were in full bloom.
Two ladies enoying the solitude of fishing in the back swamp along the river. When I approached the lady with the brimmed hat and asked if I could take a picture, she said, "You can take a picture, but I wouldn't tell you my name and don't you ask my name".
Just so happened that this day was also, "Take Your Kid to Work" day. Hey, this sure looks like more fun than being at school after all those FCAT tests! Leigh Brooks, a botanist used those "hands on" moments to teach Nic and Laura about the rare plants located in this area.
