Eastpoint a small fishing town located between the St. Greorge Island and Apalachicola. Historically this area has been the center for some of Florida's best oyster harvesting. One week before Hurricane Dennis moved into the bay I had filmed a short segment with several of the oystermen. Dennis destroyed the boats that are in the first segment. Monday after the storm I filmed another segment. Still films and images portray what happened.
Freeze frames from video tape recorded by Sammy Tedder - along the bay in Eastpoint
Top four images are oystermen hanging out along the docks waiting for work. Gene Webb stated, "We are waiting for the phone to ring for an order, oysters are being imported from other areas and that makes it hard for us. We want the work, we really do". Below images: the day after Hurricane Dennis. The boats in the rubble are the three boats in the above images. "This is heart breaking to see my life's savings destroyed, this boat was how I made my living" stated John Polous.
